CHE 2120 - ORGANIC CHEMISTRY I
Prerequisite: CHE 1104, ENGL 1411 or equivalent placement
A study of the compounds of carbon, the mechanism of organic reactions, and synthesis of representative organic compounds. Characterization of organic compounds using infrared and NMR spectroscopy will be emphasized. The chemistry of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alkyl halides, alcohols, ethers and other organic compounds will be studied with a particular emphasis on reaction mechanism. A thorough study of bonding, acid-base chemistry, and steriochemistry is performed.
